Glenrothes 50 Year Old

Fifty years. Fifty Bottles. Fifty Members.

To celebrate the first time opening of the Glenrothes distillery we were commissioned to create a run of fifty personal invites and accompanying books in celebration of their newly released 50-year-old whisky.

Designed in collaboration with Studio Edrington, the product was centred around sensory experience, using luxurious paper and foiling, with textures for tactility and allure.

The experience starts with the sliding of the leather-embossed outer protective sleeve, in the direction of the copper line to reveal its delicate debossed inner pack. Inside, a hidden magnetic opening reveals the introductory hand-signed letter.

The copper line, the main feature, evokes a crack in the door, offering a first glimpse for members of what is to come, emulating the experience of approaching a real, unopened distillery door. The hand-gilded copper membership card hides an invite in its sleeve.

Sliding the copper-foiled book from its sleeve reveals the rich central line, protected and lined with a soft touch internal paper. All of these considered sensorial elements accumulate to deliver an experience of luxury, evoking intrigue and anticipation.

A truly special opening experience.

We were delighted that this project won an award at the prestigious Scottish Design Awards 2021 in the “Print Design” category along with a Silver award at the World Brand Design Society Awards 2020.

"For The Glenrothes' first 50 Year Old single malt, we wanted to create a pack that customers would treasure just as much as the whisky. We decided to partner with Form Digital to bring the project to life because of their expert understanding of craft and design, and their ability to innovate through physical print. Form helped elevate the production at every turn and, together, we were able to create a true one-off: beautiful, elegant and reaped in story."
